During the Roar, typically from March into April, mature stags become more vocal and active. Hunters work with an experienced guide to locate the right stag, evaluate its antlers and trophy class, and execute the stalk.

More New Zealand Hunting Species

Red Stag may be the primary target, but it does not have to be the only species included in the trip.

Sika are alert, elusive animals known for their sharp senses and distinctive whistle. Fallow bucks offer a different trophy with their recognizable palmated antlers. Arapawa Ram and feral goat can also be added to create a more varied North Island hunt.
